Austins Access Statement
Austins Guesthouse is located in the centre of Cardiff 300 m from the Cardiff Castle and overlooking the River Taff. The guesthouse comprises 2 separate buildings Austins 1 and Austins 2 at No’s 11&9 Coldstream Terrace, City Centre, Cardiff, CF11 6LJ. There are 10 guest bedrooms in each property. The nature of the construction of the buildings makes it difficult to adapt the entrance and the facilities to meet the needs of every guest. Our staffs are trained and ready to help in any way they can. This access statement has been designed to aid and assist all guests wishing to stay at Austins and we extend a warm welcome to all nationalities and all persons with a disability or special needs.
Please feel free to contact us at any time by telephone, e-mail or fax. Our phone lines are open from 10 am until 8 pm every day. Bookings and all enquiries can be made either by phone, e-mail or booked online direct from our web site. All contact details are given at the end of this statement. The nearest Bus and Train Station is Cardiff Central and is approximately half a mile (750 m) away. The walk is a flat, level walk on paved areas. The nearest Bus Stop is opposite the Castle 300 m away again an easy walk on flat paved areas. There is a slight incline to reach the river bridge and then a flat walk into the town centre. We have several local Taxi firms who are reliable. We can provide you with details or book on your behalf with pleasure. There is a location map showing our exact location in the city centre on our web site.

The closest public parking is available at Sophia Gardens, a 5 minute walk through the park. There are some free spots available from 6.30pm. We do have a small secure car park at the rear of the buildings which offers 4 parking places but these can not be reserved and we do not guarantee a space will always be available. The car park has a very narrow entrance so care must be taken entering and exiting at all times.Disabled parking is allowed on yellow lines 20 m away. Assistance with luggage is available but only on request.

Bathrooms & WC
All bathrooms are carpeted or non-slip ceramic tiled. Bathroom and sanitary ware is mainly white. We do not have a specially adapted bathroom or grip rails available so not all persons with a disability can be accommodated. But we do have ground floor bathrooms in both premises to aid any person with a disability. If informed in advance we will allocate a ground floor room to any guest with a disability who thinks our guesthouse is suitable for their requirements. We are here to help as much as we can.
Both Austins 1 and Austins 2 are fitted with modern sensitive Fire Alarms with smoke and heat detection in all public and bedroom areas. The alarm sounders are very loud but do not flash so persons with a hearing disability should inform us at check in so that we may assist in any emergency evacuation. Fire extinguishers are located on every floor in Austins 1 and in every kitchen in Austins 2 with break glass alarm activation all in accordance with the local Fire Authority recommendations and as stated in our Fire Risk Assessment. In the event of a fire the assembly point is on the street outside and opposite the buildings. We do operate a strict NO SMOKING policy inside any of the buildings.
We are a simple B&B guesthouse providing a Breakfast meal only. We do not cater for special dietary needs. But we do try to help whenever we can and guests are welcome to bring any special foods and we will store and prepare them if necessary. We will keep any medications chilled for guests during their stay.
Free Wi-Fi and high speed internet access is available throughout all the public areas and in all bedrooms.
Here at Austins we treat everyone equally and according to their needs. Disability Awareness is part of our staff training and we make every effort to comply fully with conditions outlined in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. We invite anyone with disabilities or special needs to contact prior to booking when we can fully explain and assist them to make the decision to book with us.
The confines and restraints of the existing buildings make it very difficult to adapt the accommodations for wheelchair access without the use of steps and stairs. However we are constantly looking for ways in which we can improve our facilities and we welcome any constructive advice from customers and guests which could lead to improvement in the way we do things. We have tried to be as accurate as possible in preparing our Access Statement. This statement is a self-assessment and will evolve and improve with time but we cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions contained herein.
